Genshin Impact still does not have a native macOS version. That means you cannot download the PC edition directly to an Apple Silicon or Intel Mac and expect it to run like a normal Mac game.
The good news is that there are now two genuinely practical ways to play without a Windows PC:
- GeForce NOW is the best overall option. It streams the full Windows version to either an Apple Silicon or Intel Mac, so there is no large download or Windows installation.
- BlueStacks Air is the best free local option for Apple Silicon Macs. It runs the Android version of Genshin Impact on your Mac rather than streaming it.
Boosteroid can be a paid cloud-gaming fallback where Genshin Impact is listed in its live catalogue. Boot Camp remains an Intel-only option for people who already have a compatible, supported Windows installation, but it is no longer the straightforward default it once was.

1. GeForce NOW: Best overall way to play Genshin Impact on a Mac
GeForce NOW is our first choice for most Mac owners. It runs Genshin Impact on an NVIDIA cloud PC and streams the video back to your Mac, so it works on both Apple Silicon and Intel models without a Windows partition, a virtual machine or a huge game download.
It is the full Windows version of Genshin Impact, with keyboard-and-mouse and controller support. Your progress is tied to your HoYoverse account rather than the Mac you are playing on.
How to play Genshin Impact with GeForce NOW
- Download the GeForce NOW Mac app or open play.geforcenow.com in a supported browser.
- Create or sign in to your NVIDIA account.
- Search for Genshin Impact in the GeForce NOW library and select Play.
- Sign in with your existing HoYoverse account, or create one from the game login screen.
- Use your Mac keyboard and mouse, or connect a compatible Xbox or PlayStation controller if you prefer.
The Mac app is the better choice if you want the widest range of stream-resolution and refresh-rate options. You can also play in Chrome or Safari on a recent Mac, which is useful on a work or school Mac where you do not want to install an app.
What you need
NVIDIA currently lists macOS 10.15 or later as the minimum Mac requirement. For a good 1080p stream, aim for at least a 25 Mbps connection, use 5 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and keep your latency to NVIDIA’s servers low. If the picture stutters, lowering the stream resolution usually helps more than lowering Genshin’s own graphics settings.
Genshin Impact itself is free-to-play, but GeForce NOW membership options, queues, session limits, prices and game availability can vary by country. Before paying for a longer membership, search for the game in your own regional GeForce NOW library and check the current terms there.
Important: If Genshin Impact does not appear in your GeForce NOW search results, it is not currently available through the service in your region. We would not recommend using a VPN workaround: it can be unreliable and may conflict with the service’s terms.
2. BlueStacks Air: Best free local option for Apple Silicon Macs
The old advice to avoid BlueStacks on a Mac is now out of date. BlueStacks Air is a current Android game player built for Apple Silicon Macs, and BlueStacks lists Genshin Impact among its supported games.
This is not a native macOS version of Genshin Impact. Instead, it lets you install and play the Android edition locally on an M-series Mac. That makes it a useful free alternative if your broadband is not good enough for cloud gaming or you simply do not want a subscription.
BlueStacks’ current Mac requirements are:
- An Apple Silicon Mac (its support documentation currently specifies M1 to M4)
- macOS 11 Big Sur or later
- At least 8 GB of RAM; 16 GB is recommended for demanding games
- At least 12 GB of free storage before downloading the game; allow substantially more for Genshin Impact’s own files and future updates
How to install Genshin Impact with BlueStacks Air
- Download BlueStacks Air for Mac and install it.
- Open BlueStacks Air and sign in to the Google Play Store with your Google account.
- Search for Genshin Impact, then download it from the Play Store.
- Launch the game and sign in with the HoYoverse account you use elsewhere. Make sure you choose the same game server as your existing account.
- Start with the default keyboard controls, then adjust the control layout or connect a controller if you prefer.
BlueStacks Air is free to download and use. It is also the only option here that does not depend on a cloud server being available in your country.
The trade-off is that you are playing the mobile version. Its interface, graphics options and updates can differ from the Windows edition, and it uses your Mac’s own storage and resources. It also is not an option for Intel Macs.
3. Boosteroid: A paid cloud-gaming alternative
Boosteroid is worth considering if GeForce NOW does not offer Genshin Impact in your region and you do not want to set up Windows. Like GeForce NOW, it streams a remote Windows game to your Mac and works on both Apple Silicon and Intel models.
However, do not assume that a game is available everywhere. Boosteroid’s catalogue, server coverage, memberships and pricing can change, so first search for Genshin Impact in its live library for your country before subscribing.
If it is available to you, the setup is simple:
- Create a Boosteroid account and choose a current membership.
- Download the Boosteroid Mac app or use its browser service.
- Search for Genshin Impact in the library, start a session, then sign in to your HoYoverse account when prompted.
The old claim that Boosteroid is limited to 1080p should be removed. Its Mac app now has stream-resolution controls and the service advertises higher resolutions on suitable hardware and connections. Treat those as maximums rather than a guarantee: the choices you see depend on your Mac, display, plan, network and nearby servers.
4. Boot Camp: Only for Intel Macs already running Windows
Boot Camp can still give an Intel Mac the closest thing to a local PC-gaming setup. It lets you restart into Windows, install the official Windows version of Genshin Impact through HoYoPlay, and use the Mac’s hardware directly rather than streaming from the cloud.
It has important limitations in 2026:
- Boot Camp does not work on Apple Silicon Macs.
- You need significant free storage for a Windows partition, Windows updates and the game itself.
- Apple still documents its Boot Camp workflow around Windows 10, whose normal support ended on 14 October 2025.
- Windows 11 support on an older Intel Mac depends on the exact model and installation route, so check compatibility before starting.
For those reasons, do not set up a fresh Windows 10 Boot Camp partition solely to play Genshin Impact. Use this route only if you already run a current, supported Windows installation on a compatible Intel Mac and want the lowest possible input latency.
Once Windows is ready, download Genshin Impact from the official HoYoverse site, install the Boot Camp drivers, and update your graphics drivers before adjusting the game’s graphics settings.

What about Parallels, CrossOver, PlayCover and UTM?
We would not recommend any of these as a primary way to play Genshin Impact in 2026.
- Parallels, VMware Fusion and UTM: Virtual machines are excellent for many Windows productivity apps, but they are not a dependable Genshin route. They add a virtualised Windows layer and can be affected by game updates and anti-cheat compatibility. Use one of the cloud options instead. - CrossOver: It can install the HoYoPlay launcher, but CodeWeavers currently rates Genshin Impact as Limited Functionality on macOS and notes the anti-cheat issue. It is not stable enough for us to present as a normal Mac setup.

Which option should you choose?
Choose GeForce NOW if you have a stable broadband connection and want the full PC version with the least effort.
Choose BlueStacks Air if you have an Apple Silicon Mac, want a free option that runs locally, and are happy to play the Android version.
Choose Boosteroid only if its live catalogue confirms Genshin Impact for your country and GeForce NOW is not suitable.
Choose Boot Camp only if you have an Intel Mac and already maintain a supported Windows setup for other games or apps.
Troubleshooting Genshin Impact on a Mac
Genshin Impact does not appear in GeForce NOW or Boosteroid
Check that you are signed in and that the service is set to your actual country. Cloud-gaming catalogues are regional, and a listing can be temporarily unavailable while a service updates the game. Check the provider’s status page rather than trying to bypass the restriction with a VPN.
The stream is blurry, stutters or feels delayed
Use Ethernet if possible. Otherwise, move to a 5 GHz or Wi-Fi 6 network, pause large downloads, close other streaming apps and test with a lower stream resolution. You can also try the provider’s Mac app instead of the browser version.
My controller is connected but does not work in Genshin Impact
Check that macOS can see the controller in System Settings > Bluetooth. Then open Genshin’s in-game Settings > Controls and select Controller. If you are using GeForce NOW, this setting is changed inside the streamed game rather than in macOS.
My account or characters are missing
Make sure you have signed in with the same HoYoverse account and selected the same regional server that you use on your phone, console or PC. Do not start with a guest account if you want to keep existing progress.

Is Genshin Impact available natively for Mac?
No. HoYoverse has not released a native macOS version of Genshin Impact. Apple Silicon makes Macs much more capable for games, but it does not make the Windows PC edition run directly in macOS.
