Microsoft Releases Copilot For Mac

Microsoft has released an official Copilot app for Macs that’s now available on the Mac App Store.

Note that it will only work on Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 Sonoma or higher – it will not work on Intel Macs.

Copilot is now an integrated part of Microsoft 365 (formerly Microsoft Office) and the Copilot app brings the AI assistant onto Mac desktops.

The big question many Mac users will have however is how is it different from the ChatGPT Mac App developed by OpenAI which is part-owned by Microsoft?

The main difference is that ChatGPT centers on conversational AI and content analysis, while the new Microsoft Copilot Mac app offers a broader range of assistance, including image generation and integration with Microsoft 365 applications.

Some of the features of the new MS Copilot Mac App are:

  • Image Generation: Copilot for Mac uses DALL·E 3 to create images from text prompts to help with graphic design and creative projects.
  • Multilingual Support: It supports translation and proofreading across multiple languages, including regional dialects.
  • Voice and Chat Interaction: Copilot for Mac allows users to interact with it through both voice and text.
  • Integration with Microsoft 365: For Copilot Pro subscribers ($20 per month), it also integrates with the web versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook.
