However, Preview is not designed for signing documents – it’s mainly designed for opening and editing images on a Mac although it can open and do basic annotation of PDF documents.

To sign a PDF using Preview, you need to use the “Show Markup Toolbar” button and then you’ll see a signature symbol appear in the toolbar.
