How To Still Use Twitter or X in macOS Sequoia

Last updated:

The news that both and Twitter and X have been removed from the Mac App Store means that Macs can no longer download and use the social media platform anymore.

However, thanks to the new iPhone Mirroring feature in the forthcoming macOS Sequoia, you can now mirror the iPhone and iPad version of X on your Mac.

At the moment, you can only install the preview version of macOS Sequoia but it’s likely that it will be released to all users via the Mac App Store in the Fall.

It will also require iOS 18 or higher.

Here’s how to Mirror iOS apps such as Twitter and X on your Mac using Sequoia. In this example we use an iPhone but you can also do it with an iPad.

  • Firstly, until Sequoia is released on the Mac App Store, you’ll have to install the Beta version by following these instructions. You’ll need one of the Macs listed in the system requirements to run Sequoia.
  • Make sure both your Mac and iPhone are signed-in on the same Apple ID.
  • You then need to Enable iPhone Mirroring in System Settings. Go to the Apple logo at the top left of your Mac screen and select “Desktop and Dock”.
  • Scroll down the options to “Widgets”.
  • In the “iPhone” option, select the device you want to mirror.
  • You can then launch iPhone Mirroring by opening the iPhone Mirroring app on your Mac. On your iPhone, enter your passcode when asked to.

You should now be able to see your iPhone’s screen mirrored on your Mac.

You can drag the iPhone window around your desktop and use the top bar to access the home screen and switch between apps such as X.

You simply click to open apps and click on Notifications to respond to them.

It’s obviously not quite as good as having the Twitter or X app on your Mac desktop but macOS Sequoia does at least provide a usable alternative.
